The Art of Ron Mueck

An unreleased short movie by Gautier Deblonde, and some photos showing the Australian artist Ron Mueck at work in his studio and at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. Because they are showing the skin textures, the different scales alltogether, the tools of the trade and the places Ron Mueck works in, I like these pictures even more than the finished works. Photos by Gautier Deblonde and Thomas Salva

«Eva» Main Titles

Eva / Film Main Titles from Dvein on Vimeo.

According to Dvein, ‘Eva’ is a retrofuturistic sci-fi thriller in which Alex, a young scientist, returns to the town where he grew up to complete an unfinished project and create a boy robot. They were inspired by « the whole aesthetical universe of the film: the snow, the vintage laboratories, the old machinery… »

It looks like a post-digital UI, as if we were using the DNA of natural elements to build something.

An all-time favourite : The tale of the three brothers

The Tale of the Three Brothers from axisanimation on Vimeo.

The absolute highlight of the Harry Potter’s sixth episode, maybe with the dance on Nick Cave’s song “O’Children”. To me it’s close to perfection : short, dense, with a very accurate direction and a well balanced color scheme ; the design of the Death plays with the cliché but nevertheless offers a subtle brand new style, especially with the clothes and the alien-style spine… Finally we can’t miss the obvious tribute to Lotte Reiniger, the german animated movies pioneer who directed The adventures of Prince Achmed. A perfect alchemy by director Ben Hibon (see also here).

Realitat’s Microsonic Landscapes

An algorithmic exploration of the music we love. Each album’s soundwave proposes a new spatial and unique journey by transforming sound into matter/space: the hidden into something visible.
Realitat, a research and experiment studio founded by Juan Manuel de J. Escalante in Mexico City, made these three dimensional vizualisations with Processing and printed them with Makerbot. It looks like a message from an unknown civilization.
